Eco-Explora is a complex endurance race taking place in N-NW Mountains of Romania. As an adventure raid it aims at promoting strong body, mind and ecological principles trough the nature of its events and the singular beauty of the surroundings.

A major atraction of this race is the fact that it is a team sport. One team has two members in the competition and other possible members as a technical team. Their goal is to finish the race in a given timeframe. The race is mixt-multisport combining orientation, mountainbike, rafting and kayaking on fast waters or lakes, mountain biking, mountaineering and escalade and more depending on the terrain. The teams have to complete the course in a given time and pass all obligatory checkpoints in full team.

This beeing an endurance race, stategy is very important (preparing in advance, terrain approach, seting the resting times and diet etc.). Also team’s capacity of solving problems on the spot and a good functioning as a whole is decisive.

Adventure raid is something to push you out of your confort zone, both physically and mentally, testing your limits in an unknown and most often extremely challenging environment. This type of competition started to be organised in Romania in 2000. It proved very attractive due to the fact that it is covering more sports requireing multilateral physical and psychical training. Other important aspects are team strategy and personal motivation.

Now there are 3 such contests organized in our country, and Eco-Explora is one of them.

Our competition was first held in 2006 as an initiative of sports and nature lovers. Their aim was, and still is, to offer the young in the county, and not only them, an oportunity to step out of the urban environment and do sports in the outdoor, beautiful nature. Ecology and activities of low impact on nature are promoted during this competition. Eco-Explora is much more than a contest, it is before that a social opportunity for sportsman, nature and mountain lovers  allover Romania to come in touch. Even if results also matter, we firstly promote the idea of friendship and fair-play both for participants and for organisers.

Regarding the future of our Eco-Explora race, we try to keep the adventure on, rather that transforming it into a marathon. This is why the events will mainly remain the same( trekking, MTB, orientation, rope), but the routes will be planed so that they can offer some surprise events and variations to the classical ones. The point is making the competition more dinamica and attractive, for the teams to experience as much adventure as possible. All of this will strongly be influenced by the terrain.
